From Court to Calling: One Student’s Journey at Trinity College of Florida
Sometimes, the most life-changing journeys start with a simple flyer.
Coming out of high school, Ikareem wasn’t flooded with major basketball offers. But one of his AAU coaches handed him a flyer for a tryout at Trinity College of Florida. Intrigued, he made the two-hour drive—and that one decision sparked a life-transforming chapter.
“Coach O wanted me here,” he recalled. “He just said, ‘Get to the school,’ and that’s how it all began.”
Since arriving on campus, Ikareem’s journey has been about more than just basketball. It’s been a season of growth, challenge, and deep spiritual transformation.
“Trinity changed a lot in my life,” he shared. “The biggest thing? My relationship with God. But beyond that, it taught me how to be a man.”
Growing up, Ikareem was used to doing everything on his own. Independence was survival. But at Trinity, he discovered a new kind of strength—one rooted in trust, community, and faith.
“I was really closed off when I first got here. I didn’t trust people,” he admitted. “But Trinity helped open my heart. It taught me that God puts people in your life for a reason—and it’s okay to lean on them.”
As he prepares to graduate, Ikareem feels the Lord guiding him toward a future that still includes basketball—but also something deeper.
“I know I’ll be playing for a little longer,” he said, “but I really feel called to pour into others, to help people in some way. I don’t know exactly what it’ll look like yet, but that’s where my heart is.”
When asked what advice he’d give to students considering Trinity, he explained the reality of being a college student:
“If you really want to grow as a person, this is the place,” he said. “It’s not always easy. There’ll be ups and downs, and you’ve gotta be strong. But Trinity will grow you the right way. Not the convenient way—the right way.”
