Dr. David Miller, Romans 5:8 Devotional

Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

What AMAZING news! Yes, it is that simple. And some of you need to hear this today. You do not need to impress God with your efforts, or your personality, or your deep long-winded prayers. He chose you, sought you out, and offered you salvation through grace while you were still a sinner. It is similar to the idea of proposing marriage to someone who has a terrible, disfiguring disease. You know they have it, it is not desirable in any way, but you love them so much that you still want to be with them. How would the person with the disease feel? Grateful, humble, loved, accepted. So, feel the weight of your sin and guilt lifting off your shoulders this very minute. You had nothing to do with God accepting you as His child. He chose you and died for you in your worst possible state. You are loved. You are desirable. You are His child. Stop living your life being guided by guilt and disappointment and start learning to accept that fact that you are precious and special to Him. Yes, He wants to cleanse you of your sin and make you more like Himself, but your acceptance is NOT based on anything but His love and grace. Be thankful for that today.
